Tourmaline Harris's life hit pause at 15, when her mom went to prison because of Tourmaline's unintentionally damning testimony. But at 18, her home life is stable, and she has a strong relationship with her father, the president of a local biker club known as the Wardens.
Virginia Campbell's life hit fast-forward at 15, when her mom "sold" her into the services of Hazard, a powerful attorney a man for whom the law is merely a suggestion. When Hazard sets his sights on dismantling the Wardens, he sends in Virginia, who has every intention of selling out the club - and Tourmaline. But the two girls are stronger than the circumstances that brought them together, and their resilience defines the friendship at the heart of this powerful debut novel.

I'm a teacher and I read a lot of YA and NA fiction so that I can keep up with my students and give them good recommendations. I rarely write reviews because I rarely read anything worth taking the time to do so. Done Dirt Cheap is definitely worth the read and the review, and will be my go-to recommendation for the young women I teach. Tourmaline and Virginia are the strong female leads with rich character development every parent or teacher longs for in YA fiction. Their unlikely friendship and support for one another as they come of age and grow into their own power is well-written, believable, and inspiring. The plot is intriguing, unique, and refreshing - with its primary focus on young women growing together and only background focus on their romantic interests. Ms. Lemon's prose is beautiful, providing the full sensory experience and meaningful philosophical lessons one would expect from a John Irving or Toni Morrison novel, not YA fiction. A stellar first novel and a gem in the YA fiction genre.Product details

Done Dirt Cheap (Audible Audio Edition) Sarah Nicole Lemon Natasha Soudek Audible Studios Books Reviews
Even if the story sucked (it doesn't), this book would still be worth reading. The writing is exquisite. The author gives vivid details without extraneous stuff that can get boring. It's just really pleasant to read. But then it also has an intriguing plot and fantastic characters. This isn't even my usual genre, but it's one of the best books I've read in a while.
I really enjoyed this book! The characters were compelling and I found the ending very satisfying. It’s like a more palatable version of sons of Anarchy, told from the point of view of teenage girls )
This book was amazing and I can't wait to read Sarah Lemon's next! It was everything I didn't know I wanted and full of complex characters and relationships that I wanted more of from page one. (No, but really, when does her next book come out because I NEED IT.) Highly recommend for contemporary readers who aren't looking for more of the same.
This book is magnetic and spellbinding. The writing is truly magical. I loved every minute of it and was so sad when I turned the last page. Hope to see a lot more from this author!
Let me just say this up front I wasn’t sure I was going to like this book.
I found the first 25%...bewildering. Confusing. I couldn’t figure out who knew what and what they should and shouldn’t know - and it made everyone’s motives weird and baffling.
BUT!
Just hang in there. Keep going. Get past the armor of T & V and sink into their lives. It’s worth it. I finished this with full-body goosebumps.
I loved the sentences in this novel, first of all. Sarah Nicole Lemon is a gorgeous writer, every page brimming with beautiful and astonishing sentences. The story follows two young women figuring out how to survive abusive adult men who are seeking to exploit and harm them. The characters explore the power of friendship, discovering together what their roles are in and around a prominent motorcycle gang. This is a novel about teens who have very little handed to them in life, having to solve dangerous and adult problems that aren't their fault to begin with. In other words, this novel is very real. The ending was hard won and satisfying too. I highly recommend and look forward to whatever this author does next.
This is a deeply romantic book, and I don't just mean romance in the form of amorous love, but love that exists between fathers and daughters, families and friends. There are so many emotions, that are all so relatable and beautifully described, and as a reader, you feel you are in the middle of the story. It is ultimately a triumphant story of love - in all its forms. I really, really liked this book. )
